I am looking for gluten free/egg free mayo. And before you say they don’t make it, they do cause I’ve bought it before but the store stopped carrying it so now I’m trying to find it online but can’t. Or even if anyone knows a recipe so that I can make it.

Try your local health/organic food store. Or go to Publix…if they don’t have it, they’ll order it for you.

Going Gluten Free

Article by R. Frericksen

You probably have heard the term gluten free, but have you researched what that means? What is gluten and what is an allergic reaction to it. These are just a few things discussed in this article.

Gluten is the elastic, rubbery protein present in wheat, rye, barley and to a lesser degree in oats. It binds the dough in foods such as bread and other baked goods. It contributes to spongy consistency. Rice and maize do not contain gluten.

Wheat allergies can create many different symptoms or adverse reactions. What is wheat allergy? Wheat allergy refers specifically to adverse reactions involving immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies to one or more protein fractions of wheat, including albumin, globulin, gliadin and glutenin (gluten). Allergic reactions to wheat may be caused by ingestion of wheat-containing foods or by inhalation of flour containing wheat (Baker’s asthma).

Clinical experience suggests that wheat allergy is relatively uncommon, but there are no accurate figures for prevalence. The allergy is more prevalent in certain groups: e.g., wheat allergy is responsible for occupational asthma in up to 30% of individuals in the baking industry.

Allergic reactions to wheat usually begins within minutes or a few hours after eating or inhaling wheat. The more common symptoms involve the skin, hives, eczema, swelling, abdominal cramps, nausea and vomiting, oral allergy syndrome and the respiratory tract (asthma or allergic rhinitis).

The diagnosis of a wheat allergy may be easy if a person has the same reaction repeatedly after eating wheat-containing food. More often the diagnosis is difficult because wheat is usually consumed with other food. Diagnosis usually entails clinical evaluation (medical history, family history, food history) supported by appropriate laboratory tests (CAP

Overview of Gluten Free Foods

Article by Amora Noga

Gluten free foods, simply put, are foods which do not contain gluten. Gluten is a type of protein found in wheat products, barley and rye. To a normal person, these proteins mean no harm. But for people suffering from celiac disease, gluten filled foods is a different story. Once they ingest this protein, it will act up and affect the intestines in an unhealthy way. Once this happens, the intestines will lose its full ability to absorb essential nutrients needed by the body. And when this aggravation lasts, it could also result to different illnesses which could pose a threat to one’s health. When you do your homework and study gluten free foods, you will find that you will be able to, with a minimum amount of work, enjoy full meals without sacrificing taste or quality. However it takes constant awareness when you are eating.

These foods should be avoided by people with celiac disease at all costs. In order to do this, people should be aware of the kind of foods that they should not include in their meals and they should also make sure that the product that they buy are really free from gluten. This is because even if certain products claim that the ingredients used to make a certain product does not include gluten, cross contaminations could happen to these products.

Gluten free foods can be found almost everywhere. But for safety of people who are suffering from celiac disease, it is recommended that they go to specific stores to buy their products. This is because in these stores, they can be assured that they can get authentic gluten free foods and no contamination could have hapend. When there are no gluten free stores accessible for them, they can go to regular supermarkets which have a separate rack for these products.

Or should I just give her a different meal? And if you can find alot of gluten free food, is it Nice? Is it cheap?

-Need to know! Thanks.

Answer by Maple Syrup
My sister is gluten intollerant, so we have to buy a lot of foods without gluten.

The foods tastes pretty much the same and sometimes even better.

It can be hard sometimes to find gluten free foods, but if you know the right places it can be easy. I use Safeway, but other stores which specialise in allergies should work fine too. Fruit and veg stores have also come in handy.

Depending on the food, the prices can vary, so I suggest you check it out for yourself.

I do recommend you give her the same meal as the others, otherwise she might feel a bit left out or even tempted to eat something which could make her sick. Plus, what if she eats something without realising it has gluten in it? Try to keep the party foods completely free of gluten for her.

It is very nice that you are making sure this friend feels better at your party, by supplying food for her. I can tell you that a lot of people don’t.

Good luck,
Maple xoxo
