Can i eat gluten free food even if im not gluten sensitive?

Question by redrubies: Can i eat gluten free food even if im not gluten sensitive?
What are the benefits? Will it help me lose weight? What is gluten free food?

Best answer:

Answer by Daniel ben Yeshia
Gluten is an elastic type of protein found in wheat. It is what gives bread dough its stretchy nature.

Yes, you can eat gluten free even if you aren’t gluten sensitive. Many people avoid white flour to lose weight. White flour has no fiber to it, so you are better off eating more raw vegetables instead of grains (corn is a grain, not a vegetable). If you do this it is likely that you will lose weight.

Gluten Free Food While Traveling

Article by Mark Etinger

Traveling, either for work or for pleasure, can be quite an ordeal in and of itself. Add to that the stress of sticking to gluten free foods and you might feel this is a recipe for disaster. With a little bit of research and some planning ahead, your trip can be an enjoyable one.

Airline travel might seem like the toughest route to tackle. You cannot eat regular airline meals provided on the flight, so you must find out in advance if the airline can prepare a gluten free meal. With an increase in awareness, most airlines should be able to accommodate you. However, some may restrict these special meals to longer or cross-continental flights. Call in advance to inquire and reserve your meal. You cannot ask for a special meal at the last minute. After boarding, let the crew know that you ordered the gluten free food so they don’t mistakenly give it to someone else.

Unfortunately, you can’t assume all the food they give you is gluten free. They might think they’re being “generous” by giving you the normal dessert, but you probably can’t eat it. Only eat the food that is wrapped and labeled. To be safe, bring along “emergency” snacks and food for the flight. It’s also a wise decision to pack gluten free snacks in case you have trouble searching for safe foods during your stay.

When booking your hotel, always request a room with a microwave and refrigerator. The more meals you can make yourself, the better. Stopping at the local grocery stores might prove to be a hassle because you either won’t have the time or they might not have what you’re looking for. Instead, order gluten free food online before your trip and have it delivered to your hotel room. Then food will be one less item to worry about and you can focus on enjoying your trip.

Shy away from vending machines and fast food places. Unless properly labeled, gluten free foods maybe hard to identify. Books like, “The Essential Gluten Free Grocery Guide,” lists thousands of safe foods to eat. Look for similar books to guide you along the way. When eating at restaurants, be inquisitive and talk to your server about the foods they can offer you

Your trip should be one you remember because of the good times you had and not because of constant stomach issues. Always be smart and don’t take risks with your food.

I’m having a birthday party soon, and one of my best friends- whose coming- can’t eat gluten (Shes allergic). Would it be really hard to find gluten free food for the whole party, like all the guest? Or should I just give her a different meal? And if you can find alot of gluten free food, is it Nice? Is it cheap?

-Need to know! Thanks.

My sister is gluten intollerant, so we have to buy a lot of foods without gluten.

The foods tastes pretty much the same and sometimes even better.

It can be hard sometimes to find gluten free foods, but if you know the right places it can be easy. I use Safeway, but other stores which specialise in allergies should work fine too. Fruit and veg stores have also come in handy.

Depending on the food, the prices can vary, so I suggest you check it out for yourself.

I do recommend you give her the same meal as the others, otherwise she might feel a bit left out or even tempted to eat something which could make her sick. Plus, what if she eats something without realising it has gluten in it? Try to keep the party foods completely free of gluten for her.

It is very nice that you are making sure this friend feels better at your party, by supplying food for her. I can tell you that a lot of people don’t.

Good luck,
Maple xoxo

Question by Keller: Where Can I Go for Gluten Free Food in Nice, France?
My girlfriend has celiac disease (an allergy to wheat, flour, etc) and thus cannot eat pasta, bread, and many other common foods. Can anyone suggest restaurants with gluten-free options or health food stores where she can buy food while we are in Nice?

Hmm. Im not sure this will help but let me try. Go to www.csaceliacs.org. This is an American site and non profit but I think they have chapters all over the world. (or they may be more knowledgable on how to find out what u need.)
Also try the Triumph Dining Cards. I think offer them in variuos languages taht will help get your point across when ya’ll go out to eat there. Hmm this is hard bc I have never been out of the country!! SOrry Im not more helpful!!! Good luck!
